Growing A Garden For the Soul
People decide to start growing a garden for many reasons. Some people do it to grow pretty flowers to enjoy, many people grow vegetable gardens to raise food to sustain them, some grow organic vegetable gardens because they want to be healthier, some people even start growing a garden to get exercise, a few people grow beautiful gardens to raise certain types of championship produce or blooms that will win prizes, some homeowners just want to have some nice looking flower beds so that their home will fit in with the neighborhood. Many people have more than one reason for growing a garden. Most people, however, do not start off growing a garden to feed their soul. One of the benefits though that most people do get from growing a garden is what they receive to feed their soul. There is something about having the responsibility and the privilege of serving as an implement to the healthy and miraculous growth of living plants that is soulful. Growing a garden that starts with seeds that you have provided an environment for their growing is a humbling and beautiful experience. That seed that you place in the soil looks dead. It is dry, usually a brownish type of coloring, and appears to have no life in it. And yet, that dried up looking seed contains the very essence of life, which when given the right opportunity flourishes into something wonderful. After you have diligently placed the seeds in the soil, you anxiously await their birthing. And, incredibly just as you hoped, within a few days you see the emergence of tiny little green shoots coming from Mother Earth, and you are pleased at what you have done. But wait! What did you really do? You simply provided the proper elements for these seeds to spring to life. At that moment your thoughts focus on the wonder of it all, you reach a serene pinnacle, even if it is only for a moment. You understand that you are but a teeny tiny little part of this massively uniquely intertwined energy system of the vast universe that makes everything work. |
